James drove the car down the street at a crawl as he scanned the house numbers on the doors.
He glanced at the blank, brown envelope on the passenger seat with the memory stick inside. Usually he would send damning files through a private courier, like he had organised the night before when the letter was delivered to Neenaâs family, detailing what he had on them and what was to come, with explicit stills from the video taped to the back of the letter to keep them quiet until the tape arrived, along with his demands. But now he was going to see the rest of the job through himself. Amber had rattled him.
It wasnât always sex tapes. In fact, he had only orchestrated five in his career. He originally thought of them as tasteless, even for him, but when one deal fell through from his usual approach of incriminating photos and phone communications, he had decided to up his game. He had lost out on ninety thousands pounds on that job, the only time a deal had fallen through, and he refused to let it happen again.
He liked to keep his hands clean and had an army of people ready to do dark deeds for a cut of the profits or a night in his bed: private detectives, lawyers and hackers. But this one had become personal.
James stopped the car outside the quaint semi-detached house and turned off the engine. The family were more savers than spenders, which made them the perfect catch.
The owners of the home had no idea who he was, but he knew everything there was to know about them. He had first spotted Neena in the car park at the gym holding a young child with a different ethnicity to her own. By the look of her car and the dark circles around her eyes, she was poor, but the way she spoke and held herself told him that she hadnât always been. Heâd had a feeling about her from the second he saw her, and after the next class he struck up conversation, and charmed her into a friendship that he could exploit. It wasnât long before he discovered the truth.
And then the plan was set.
James looked from window to window, thinking of the people who lived inside. It wasnât long before his mind drifted to Richard again, and the way he had cherished Jamesâ body the night before, rather than used it like the others. Richard had been the only catch that hadnât made him long to shed his skin to stop the lingering memories of each touch. But Richardâs affection, foreign after years of allowing his body to be used to his advantage, was almost worse. Each time Richard had bitten him, he felt better. He couldnât be loved. He had to be hurt.
He hadnât figured Richard as the straying type at first, but James always tested the water with his new acquaintances, and soon began to see Richardâs eyes wandering to Jamesâ behind or his lips.
